How the online special needs course works

You complete the online application, a London College of Teachers adviser contacts you to confirm your level, and after payment you receive your login and your instructors start the course. Each module ends with multiple-choice questions, with the answer key provided afterwards. At Diploma level and above you also submit an assignment and a research paper, examined by a qualified professional counsellor. Your certificate is issued after successful completion.

Step by step

  • Complete the online application or quick enquiry form.
  • An adviser contacts you and confirms your level.
  • Pay online in INR, USD or GBP and receive your login.
  • Study each module and answer its multiple-choice questions; the answer key is provided afterwards.
  • At Diploma level and above, submit an assignment and a research paper.
  • Receive your certificate on successful completion.

Mentor support

A mentor provides help when you need it, and admissions answer questions by email, phone and WhatsApp.

Practical experience

Teaching practice is not built into the online course. If you have not worked with children with special needs, arrange supervised time in an inclusive school, special school or therapy centre while you study.

Scope

The courses qualify you as a regular educator with extensive knowledge of children with special needs and as a shadow teacher. The courses do not license you as a special educator or qualify you to carry out assessments or diagnostic tests. They are not a government licence.

Study time

The Certificate is designed for up to 6 months, the Diploma 10 months, the PG Diploma 12 months and the Master Level 18 months. Fast-track is optional on the first three levels and free at Master Level.

What you need

  • A phone, tablet or computer with internet (a laptop is easiest for assignments)
  • An email address and WhatsApp
  • Around 4 to 6 hours a week
  • Ideally, some time with children with special needs to apply what you learn

After you finish

You receive your certificate from London College of Teachers Limited (UKPRN 10096558), verifiable online. You can progress to a higher level, add child psychology, or apply for shadow teacher and learning support roles.

A sample plan for the SEN Certificate
